Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice

On Tuesday 22nd of May between 1 and 3pm Join John Smeeton when Rebecca Lowe comes in to update us on the progress and talks about Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice a community-based hospice service providing support for children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families in North and Central London and Hertsmere. In 2017 we looked after 234 families (up from 189 in 2017), provided 3,850 hours of specialist care and organised 43 Family Activities events. However we need to provide more care for more children, and that is why we are building the Ark, the first children’s hospice building in North and Central London. It will be a home-from-home for seriously unwell children, where they will be given the time and space to be children, and not just patients. Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice recently celebrated a build milestone for the Ark – the erection of our oak frame for the central atrium. The atrium of The Ark will be a communal area with natural light, windows looking out onto the nature reserve and a warm welcoming environment. It will feature a café and seating areas where parents can meet each other for a chat over a coffee and slice of cake’

 

 

Food Banks

Kerry Coe The Manager of North Enfield Food Bank  is coming in to Afternoon delight on Tuesday 20th March between 1 and 3pm to talk to John about Food Banks and how they work. The Foodbank Network was founded in 2004 after four years of developing the original foodbank based in Salisbury. Since then The Trussell Trust has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in a wide range of towns and cities.In 2016/17, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,182,954 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, over 430,000 went to children

Councillor Daniel Anderson Recycling

Councillor Daniel Anderson is coming in to Afternoon Delight to join John Smeeton on Tuesday 13th March between 1 and 3pm to discuss should residents across North London bother to recycle? What are some of the costs associated with waste (for Councils and residents)? Can they really be avoided?How are Councils making it easier to recycle?Thinking out of the box – what ideas do we have to make recycling easier. It’s not just about what goes into your bin. It’s what we keep out of the bin that is important too.

Noah’s Ark Children’s Charity

Rebecca Lowes comes in to Afternoon Delight on Tuesday between 1 and 3pm on the 6th March to talk to John about The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice who help families make every precious moment count. They do this by providing clinical, practical and emotional support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families living in North and Central London and Hertsmere. There are more than 1,200 children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in our catchment area, but currently no children’s hospice building. Through our Building The Ark campaign we’re raising funds to construct North and Central London’s only children’s hospice building – The Ark.

Ruth Waxman

Ruth Waxman joins John Smeeton on Afternoon Delight this Tuesday 27th February between 1pm and 3pm. Ruth has been a diabetes healthcare campaigner since she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes two decades ago. Her journey has included setting up and chairing a Diabetes UK local group, helping get a useful booklet for local people with diabetes published, meeting local MPs to discuss diabetes issues to keep it high on their agenda, being taken on as an ‘expert patient’ for NICE to talk about new drugs for diabetes and more recently sharing her experience of diabetes care in Parliament.

Julia Franks

Julia Franks joins John Smeeton on Tuesday 20th February  between 1 and 3pm Julia plays classical guitar and entertains the patients at The Royal Free Hospital in the wards and also in the discharge area while patients wait to leave. We will also have the pleasure of listening to her play for us live on air
